SILVER Medal - 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
Our Viognier wants to be noticed for its light acidity, hints of a spring garden and its amazing creamy texture. We get our fruit right here in Calaveras County. These tiny little green grapes love the sunshine and soil in the Rolleri Vineyards outside of Angels Camp.
This wine is roughly an equal blend of the floral and tropical nature of Viognier. The first aromas remind us of a spring garden with peaches, nectarine and orange blossoms. That first sip is full of citrus - like pink grapefruit or Meyer lemon. Then comes a hint of honey and a lingering crisp finish. This is an all-season white wine that is ready to drink now.
Chuck Hovey and Romi Rolleri knew each other for years. Chuck loved Romi's fruit and so do we.
Our Viognier is barrel aged in a mix of new and neutral oak to highlight the floral and tropical nature of the fruit while also adding body and texture to the wine. The wine is aged for up to a year before being bottled right here in Calaveras County about 1/2 mile from our Tasting Room.
Food Pairing Notes
The perfect pairing is roasted chick with herbs and any kind of citrus zest. You could do well with a grilled salmon with dill and fresh lemon, or a Tuna Nicoise salad with green olives and capers.
